Day 1 Florence
Meet early in Florence and join us on a guided walking tour through
the city this afternoon. We'll savor a delicious welcome feast tonight!
Day 2 San Quirico
Walk from medieval Montefollónico to Renaissance Montepulciano,
with broad views of Umbria and southern Tuscany. Perhaps taste a
glass of the exquisite local Vino Nobile wine, then set out through
the vineyards to Montichiello, with its lovely piazzas and tiny
lanes. Our home for three nights is San Quirico d'Orcia, a gated
town located on the ancient Via Francigena trade route.
Day 3 San Quirico
Lace up your boots for a walk through gentle farm covered hills,
past stone farmhouses and simple churches to Bagno Vignoni, a popular
spa town. Continue to medieval Rocca d'Orcia, then spend the afternoon
in Pienza, once home of Pope Pius II, where we visit its ornate
Duomo and other sights.
Day 4 San Quirico
Follow the scent of cypress trees to the cream colored abbey of
Sant'Antimo, famous for its inspirational beauty and intricate decoration.
After a visit, we'll continue walking to the famous Brunello wine
town of Montalcino, where wine shops and tastings abound.
Day 5 Castellina in Chianti
Transfer to the village of Chiusure, then walk in a dramatic landscape
of steep cliffs and cypress trees to the frescoed abbey at Monte
Oliveto Maggiore. Well continue our walk to the river town of Buonconvento,
with ample time for exploring before shuttling to peaceful Castellina,
in the Chianti Classico wine region, renowned throughout Italy.
Day 6 Castellina in Chianti
Visit the Renaissance wine cellars and other sights in Castellina
this morning. This afternoon we'll transfer to Siena for a guided
tour of the winding streets and alleys that fan out from the Piazza
del Campo. Spend all day exploring this charming town, then meet
for a traditional dinner of Sienese specialties.
Day 7 San Gimignano
The vineyard clad hills lead to San Gimignano. See its towers in
the distance and enjoy Tuscan views of farm covered hills cascading
to the horizon. It is the perfect walk to end our week in Tuscany.
Tonight we'll indulge in a memorable farewell banquet.
Day 8
Transfer to Florence for departure.
